Petition Filed Seeking Ban on Political Activities of 11 Parties Including Bangladesh  Awami League

Dhaka : A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking an interim directive to ban political activities of a total of 11 political parties, including the Bangladesh Awami League. The petition calls on the Law Secretary, the Home Secretary, the Election Commission, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take action in this regard.

Filed by Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, along with another individual, the writ alleges that parties such as the Awami League, Jatiya Party (Ershad), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Tariqat Federation, Communist Party of Bangladesh, and LDP are engaged in activities that disrupt democratic institutions, cause indiscriminate killings, and illegally seek to hold state power. Therefore, it demands a ban on the political activities of these parties and calls for their permanent disqualification from participating in future elections.

The writ also requests the court to issue a rule asking why the political activities of these 11 parties should not be banned and why their future participation in any election should not be permanently restricted.

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leaders Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah confirmed through verified posts on their Facebook pages that they have filed two separate writ petitions.

This petition has generated significant attention in the country's political sphere, with public interest now focused on the court's forthcoming decision.
