Controversy Surrounds Bangladesh  President Md. Shahabuddin's Comments on Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation

Political tensions have intensified following President Md. Shahabuddin's comments regarding former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation letter. The president’s statement that there is no documentary proof of her resignation has provoked criticism from various political and activist groups. Anti-discrimination student leaders, including Asif Nazrul, have accused him of dishonesty, demanding his resignation through protests at Dhaka University.

Legal experts question whether the president can be removed under constitutional law, while some activists argue that popular uprising supersedes legalities. However, key opposition parties like BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, while critical of the president’s role, remain cautious about calling for his resignation.

BNP has advised senior leaders to refrain from commenting on the issue, while Jamaat-e-Islami claims the president has lost the moral right to remain in office due to false statements. Despite these criticisms, both parties are careful in addressing the issue of the president’s removal, indicating a reluctance to engage fully in the debate.

Matters escalated after the editor of Manabzamin, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, revealed that the president had confirmed no formal evidence of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. This disclosure has prompted legal and activist groups to demand his resignation, with protests intensifying throughout Dhaka and other parts of the country.

The president’s future is now uncertain as political groups deliberate his role, while protests and accusations of dishonesty continue to mount, putting additional pressure on the office of the presidency.

শেখ হাসিনার পদত্যাগ নিয়ে রাষ্ট্রপতি মোঃ শাহাবুদ্দিনের মন্তব্য ঘিরে বিতর্ক

সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার পদত্যাগপত্র নিয়ে রাষ্ট্রপতি মো: শাহাবুদ্দিনের মন্তব্যের পর রাজনৈতিক উত্তেজনা তীব্রতর হয়েছে। তার পদত্যাগের কোনো প্রামাণ্য প্রমাণ নেই বলে রাষ্ট্রপতির বক্তব্য বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক ও কর্মী গোষ্ঠীর সমালোচনার জন্ম দিয়েছে। আসিফ নজরুলসহ বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্রনেতারা তার বিরুদ্ধে অসততার অভিযোগ এনে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে বিক্ষোভের মধ্য দিয়ে তার পদত্যাগ দাবি করেছেন।

আইন বিশেষজ্ঞরা প্রশ্ন তোলেন যে রাষ্ট্রপতিকে সাংবিধানিক আইনের অধীনে অপসারণ করা যেতে পারে, যখন কিছু কর্মী যুক্তি দেন যে জনপ্রিয় অভ্যুত্থান বৈধতাকে ছাড়িয়ে যায়। তবে, বিএনপি এবং জামায়াতে ইসলামীর মতো প্রধান বিরোধী দলগুলি রাষ্ট্রপতির ভূমিকার সমালোচনা করলেও, তার পদত্যাগের আহ্বানের বিষয়ে সতর্ক থাকে।

বিএনপি সিনিয়র নেতাদের এ বিষয়ে মন্তব্য করা থেকে বিরত থাকার পরামর্শ দিয়েছে, অন্যদিকে জামায়াতে ইসলামীর দাবি, মিথ্যা বক্তব্যের কারণে রাষ্ট্রপতি পদে থাকার নৈতিক অধিকার হারিয়েছেন। এই সমালোচনা সত্ত্বেও, উভয় পক্ষই রাষ্ট্রপতির অপসারণের ইস্যুটি মোকাবেলায় সতর্কতা অবলম্বন করে, যা বিতর্কে সম্পূর্ণভাবে জড়িত হতে অনিচ্ছার ইঙ্গিত দেয়।

মানবজমিনের সম্পাদক মতিউর রহমান চৌধুরী শেখ হাসিনার পদত্যাগের আনুষ্ঠানিক কোনো প্রমাণ রাষ্ট্রপতি নিশ্চিত করেননি বলে প্রকাশ করার পর বিষয়টি আরও বেড়ে যায়। এই প্রকাশ আইনী ও কর্মী গোষ্ঠীগুলিকে তার পদত্যাগের দাবিতে প্ররোচিত করেছে, ঢাকা জুড়ে এবং দেশের অন্যান্য অংশে বিক্ষোভ তীব্রতর হচ্ছে।

রাষ্ট্রপতির ভবিষ্যত এখন অনিশ্চিত কারণ রাজনৈতিক গোষ্ঠীগুলি তার ভূমিকাকে প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ  করেছে, যখন প্রতিবাদ এবং অসততার অভিযোগ বাড়তে থাকে, যা প্রেসিডেন্সির অফিসে অতিরিক্ত চাপ সৃষ্টি করেছে।
